The Year 2001: Start of a remarkable journey
The year 2001 saw a movie that redefined Bollywood in many senses. This was the Movie “Dil Chahta Hai” which showed the story of 3 friends and their journey in a way perhaps never shown before in Bollywood.
While actors like Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Preity Zinta got acclaim for their portrayal in different ways,
it was the start of the cinematic journey of Farhan Akhtar, son of the poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi, who had already made their mark in Bollywood.
He was the director and Producer of this movie. Then came movies like Lakshya, Don and Don 2 and all that made his Movie house a name to reckon with.
Farhan Akhtar’s journey as an actor
Yet more was in store. Farhan Akhtar who can also sing quite well jumped into the acting arena. He started with the role of a rock band member in the Movie Rock On in 2008 and impressed all with his acting as well as singing skills.
And his role had diverse dimensions too.
Then he played the role of mysterious Karthik Narayan, a meek man who lacks confidence and is living with certain guilt, yet he transforms to what he wishes. It was amazing as to how he handled a complex role of a person with multiple dimensions and personalities with such ease. This role showed that he was meant to be a serious actor, even if a bit less flashy as compared to the likes of Khans or Ranbir Kapoor.
Yet one of his most memorable roles came as the “Flying Sikh” Milkha Singh, who missed on an Olympic Bronze in the 1960 Rome Olympics. This movie was named Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Farhan trained very hard for the role and got a physique as an athlete. His portrayal and acting skills fetched him Filmfare and IIFA in the Best Actor category.
The Movie also won 13 IIFA awards and 7 Filmfare awards in all!
The Journey continues
Farhan has also played great roles in movies like Luck by Chance,Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and most recently Wazir.
Wazir has shown him playing an action hero as an anti-terrorist officer and who overcomes adversity to succeed in his mission. Wazir is a kind of dark movie, but Farhan essays his role with ease.
An actor who has impressed and succeeded in diverse roles, his 8 years have been a journey worth describing about.
He indeed has a bright future and many years to come as a great actor.
